Group Art Therapy
Where creativity becomes a path to self-discovery
Art therapy is more than painting or crafting - it’s a gentle, profound way to connect with your inner world.
Why Art Therapy Works
Art therapy isn’t about art in the usual sense. It’s not about technique or making something “beautiful.” It’s about listening inward - to what hasn’t yet found words, but might find shape, texture, and meaning through image. There’s no right or wrong in this process, only what is yours. And that is what matters most.
Art therapy invites us to slow down and meet ourselves differently - not through explanation, but through expression.
During a session, we create a space free from judgment, expectations, or the pressure to perform or conform.
A space where it feels safe to let go of control and through the creative process, reconnect with yourself.
Art therapy is a way of giving voice to what has long remained in the shadows.
Emotions, inner experiences, and unspoken images often accumulate beneath the surface, subtly shaping how we feel and behave. Engaging in art therapy helps create space for these inner contents, a kind of psychological hygiene.
What remains unconscious can quietly govern us and contribute to unnecessary suffering.
But when something is brought into awareness, when we begin to see and name it - change becomes possible. We gain the capacity to relate to it differently, with more understanding and choice.
The unconscious rarely speaks in words, it speaks through images.
Art becomes its language. Through paint, clay, collage, or even movement and poetry, we bypass the mind’s defenses and encounter ourselves in new and surprising ways.
By creating with our hands, we make the invisible visible: fears, longings, memories, hopes... and begin to witness, hold, and transform them.
The process is intuitive, playful, and often unexpectedly revealing.
What to Expect in a Session:
Art therapy process unfolds gently and thoughtfully, offering a safe and supportive space for inner exploration. Each session typically includes:
🦋 Creative exploration
We engage in visual expression using various media - most often painting, but also clay, collage, or textile work when it supports the theme.
🦋 Deepening the experience - practices that support the creative process
To help to connect more fully with inner world, we draw on various depth-oriented techniques such as active imagination, guided meditation, voicework, movement and expressive writing. At times, we create a story, poem, or symbolic narrative. These practices can unfold either before or after the art-making process, depending on the theme and individual process of each participant. Each one offers a unique way to access the unconscious, process difficult emotions, and allow deeper meanings to emerge.
🦋 Sharing circle - optional sharing and verbal reflection
After the creative process, there is an invitation - never an obligation to share what emerged. Giving voice to an inner experience can support integration: naming something often gives it shape, coherence, and a place within consciousness. At the same time, some people may feel that their process needs to remain private, and that choice is always respected. This space honors both: the need to speak and the need to stay inward.
🦋 Relational connection and group support
Each group is a living field of resonance. Participants are invited to show up as they are with vulnerability, curiosity, and presence. There is often space for a shared tea ritual, nourishing snacks, and open conversation, which fosters a sense of belonging and warmth. These moments of human connection are an essential part of the healing process.
